i was reading a book on early church fathers and early christian doctrines.
i could not put the book down.
i noticed that some of the early church fathers "denounced" war frowned upon celebrating holidays and also "birthdays" some of their arguments sounded exactly like jw's and if you did not know you would have thought you were talking to some jw's.
I do not know about Rob Bowman, but I have read both Walter Martin and Ron Rhodes. Both have stated that the WTS are an off shot of the Adventist. Charles Russell joned in the 1834 was the invisible return of Jesus and 1874 was to be Armageddon . When 1874 came and went 1874 was the invisible return and 1914 was to be Armageddon.
There are other groups that follow Russell's teach, like the Dawn Students ( a break off because of Rutherford). But none as powerful as the WTS.

You should read the weven Studies in the Scripture. Ones that were printed before 1917. Compare them to what you are being taught today. Remember this is the teach on which Jesus choose the WTS for His only servant.
Ask your study person if Jesus is saying he is the Almighty in Revelation 1:8. Book seven of the Studies in the Scripture 1917ed Russel said that He was.

I do not hate JWs. I do have my doubts about whose angels the WTS listens to and follows.
I come here because it helps me to understand what it is like to live in the organization. Not that I can fully know. But if I hope to be able to reach out to JWs it is helpful to understand what is going on in their lives.
I also read alot about the WTS reasoning process concerning doctrine. People that have gone through the organization seem to be able to point out the double talk that the Org spews out. Whether it is a change of old doctrine or how two current doctrines conflict.
Hate the individual, NO. Hate what controls them, YES.

I agree that flesh and blood is an expression of mortal mankind. But the only place we see flesh and BONES in the NT is when Jesus is talking about is reserrected body. So I ask why the use of bones. Does this give a distinction between mortal and immortal? I believe it does.

Jesus, says he is flesh and bone. Paul says, flesh and blood. I do not see how Paul's statement negates Jesus from bodily ressurection. It does tell us that the immortal body does not have blood.
well, i think given what Confused said the religion being "unique" it's hard for many people on this forum to be able to speak openly and be understood by people that have never experienced the religion...so this forum serves as a place for many of us with this common background to discuss what we can't easily discuss with others. Did that make sense?
It also allows those of us that have never been JWs to gain insight on what the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is like as a JW.
in what ways does each of the jw meetings play a part in instilling obedience to the mother organization?
or maybe put another way, how does each weekly jw meeting contribute to the overall jw mindset?.
this thought came to me whilst drifting in and out of the watchtower study this morning.. ministry school: helps jws strengthen their speaking skills for better defending their beliefs.
The 5 (or 3 times a week) meetings plus field service keep you busy so that you don't have time to be distracted by life going on around you.
I always relate this to what pharoah did to the Jews in Egypt. NIV Exodus 5:6-9 6 That same day Pharaoh gave this order to the slave drivers and foremen in charge of the people: 7 "You are no longer to supply the people with straw for making bricks; let them go and gather their own straw. 8 But require them to make the same number of bricks as before; don't reduce the quota. They are lazy; that is why they are crying out, 'Let us go and sacrifice to our God.' 9 Make the work harder for the men so that they keep working and pay no attention to lies."
The WTS or Pharoah keeps the rank and file so busy they are not able to find the real Truth or read the Bible for themself. All they know is the lie, since they never have a chance to really look at what the proof text are actually saying.

i ask because i believe it's important for searching jws who come here to not only learn if there are christians here but also to hear from them personally what their thoughts on the bible are.

I have never been a JW. Raised a Methodist till 30 yoa, changed membership to Christian Reformed Church for the last 20 years. I most certainly believe the Bible is the Word of God. It is not that I do not question, but I always come back to it being his encouragement to all.
